Find Russell County Release Dates

A Russell County projected release date answers when a sentenced person may leave custody under the present calculation. It is not the same as proof of departure. A pretrial detainee usually has no fixed release date because bond, court action, and other holds control the outcome. A sentenced local inmate’s date comes from the jail and court records, while a state-responsible person’s release date is calculated through the state corrections system. To learn when they will be released, identify the sentence and legal custodian first, then verify the scheduled date against the actual release papers or custody event.

Russell County Scheduled Release

A scheduled or projected date is the agency’s current calculation of when confinement should end. An actual release date records when the person left that custody. The distinction matters in Russell County because a person may be housed in an SWVRJA facility, held under VADOC authority, or moved to another custodian. Leaving one building can be a transfer rather than community release.

VADOC supports the term “release date” in its public locator description. Research could not safely inspect a live result past the CAPTCHA, so no exact public field label such as “projected” or “tentative” has been verified. Use the wording shown on the live result. The signed Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, or Conditions of Parole, plus the dated custody record, proves the event more directly than an advance calculation.

Scheduled vs actual: An expected date may change. Signed release documents and the custody event establish that departure occurred.

A pretrial detainee does not have a sentence-based projected release date. Bond, recognizance, dismissal, a release order, and unresolved holds may control the timing. The Russell court file explains the legal action, while VINE or the SWVRJA release record supplies the custody event.

Find Russell County Release Dates

Start by deciding whether the person has a local sentence, a state-responsible sentence, or no final sentence. Russell County does not operate a standalone adult jail. SWVRJA houses local detainees across Duffield, Abingdon, Haysi, and Tazewell. A Russell case does not guarantee placement at Duffield, and the authority’s public portal is a current-custody list rather than a projected-date archive.

  1. Read the Russell County court case and sentencing order. Note active time, suspended time, prior jail credit, and whether the case is still pending.
  2. For a state-responsible sentence, search the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator by the first three first-name letters plus full surname, or by seven-digit DOC ID.
  3. Match the person by DOC number and identifiers. Read the release-date label exactly as the live result presents it.
  4. For a local term, ask SWVRJA for the existing computation or release record and use the court order to frame the request.
  5. Check VINE for the later custody event. Read whether it reflects release or transfer, then follow any receiving system.
  6. Confirm actual release with the signed documents and the releasing agency’s dated record.

The Russell County release-record search gives the full path for a person who has already left the current SWVRJA list. A missing roster name does not prove that the projected date arrived. It can also mean transfer, a data delay, a spelling mismatch, or another SWVRJA facility.

Note: Search both SWVRJA and VADOC when the sentence or court order suggests state responsibility despite local physical placement.

VADOC Russell County Calculations

VADOC determines dates for active earned-sentence-credit terms over twelve months and for qualifying older good-conduct or parole-eligible combinations. Local authorities calculate other local terms. The responsible calculator therefore depends on the sentence type and active confinement, not merely the facility name on a roster.

The agency uses prior jail credit, sentence type, total active sentence, credit class, disciplinary events, and court information. A change to any of those inputs can lead to a recalculation. People physically held in a regional jail may still be state-responsible, so the VADOC route can apply before transfer to a state prison.

The official VADOC Time Computation page identifies the agency’s role, the two credit systems, and the correspondence route for date questions.

The capture helps identify the correct official source. It does not calculate a Russell County person’s date without the sentence record and individual credit history.

Russell County Earned Credits

Virginia’s familiar “85%” shorthand is not a complete description of every current sentence. Ordinary discretionary parole is generally abolished for felony conduct committed after 1994 under §53.1-165.1, subject to current exceptions. Earned sentence credits still depend on the governing statute, offense, eligibility, and classification.

Under §53.1-202.3, enumerated offenses are capped at 4.5 credit days for each 30 days served. Other eligible offenses use classification levels of 15, 7.5, 3.5, or zero days per 30. Program cooperation, assignments, education, and infractions inform classification, which is reviewed at least once each year. Lack of an available program cannot itself reduce the credit rate.

That structure is why a broad percentage can mislead. The offense list is long and should be read in the statute rather than reduced to an unsupported label. VADOC calls the capped group ESC-1 and the broader zero-to-15 group ESC-2. Credits also do not reduce the period that must pass before parole eligibility for a sentence that remains parole-eligible.

Older good-conduct allowance rules chiefly apply to pre-1995 felonies and pre-July 2008 misdemeanors. Those rates can differ sharply. The sentence date and offense date must be checked before applying either framework.

Virginia Release Date Credit Quirks

The Russell County release-date calculation cannot be reduced to “serve 85 percent.” Some eligible sentences can earn up to 15 days per 30, while the offenses listed in §53.1-202.3 remain capped at 4.5 days per 30. A person’s class can also change after annual review, conduct, work, education, or program participation.

For a useful record request, identify the credit system, current class, jail-credit input, and last computation date. Ask for existing time-computation material rather than asking the office to solve a hypothetical. If the number differs from an older estimate, corrected jail credit or a class change may explain the gap. A disciplinary forfeiture can also move the date later.

Local jail terms require a different caution. No Russell or SWVRJA weekend-release rule, Friday-for-Sunday practice, or local good-time worksheet was published. Do not import another Virginia jail’s practice. Request the computation or release record from the actual custodian.

Russell County Date Changes

A projected release date is a live calculation. It can move as the record changes. The reason should be traced to an agency document or court order, not guessed from a search result.

FactorPossible effectRecord to check
Corrected jail creditMoves the calculation earlier or laterSentencing order and computation sheet
Credit class changeChanges the future earning rateVADOC classification and computation record
Disciplinary forfeitureRemoves earned credit and may delay releaseFinal disciplinary and time record
New or amended orderChanges active time or legal authorityRussell County court file
Detainer or receiving holdMay cause transfer instead of community releaseRelease record and receiving-agency record
Parole decisionMay authorize conditional release when applicableBoard report, signed conditions, and actual release record

A detainer is a request or legal basis for another authority to take custody. It can mean the person leaves SWVRJA or VADOC on the calculated date but does not return to the community. Likewise, a parole grant is a decision, not the physical release event. Follow the receiving system and the signed papers.

Note: A transfer date can end custody at one facility while confinement continues under another state or federal authority.

SWVRJA Russell County Release Dates

For a local Russell County sentence, the SWVRJA record and the court order are the central sources. The court shows the active and suspended terms. The jail applies the local computation and prior custody credit. Its current portal does not publish a release archive, and no official source established a public projected-date field for SWVRJA.

Request the existing record with the full name, date of birth if known, approximate booking range, Russell County as the committing locality, and any booking or case number. Ask for the computed date, release date and time, release disposition, and receiving agency if transferred. A targeted request is more likely to identify the right file and control cost than a demand for all records.

SWVRJA accepts records requests through its current FOIA contact by mail, fax, email, phone, or in person. Actual search, access, duplication, and supply costs may apply. No fixed release-record fee was published. Ask for an estimate and electronic copies. Virginia’s usual response framework is five working days, with defined response choices and a written extension route. That deadline is not a guarantee that a complete record will arrive within five days.

Russell County Parole Timing

Parole can affect an eligible sentence, but eligibility and release are separate events. Virginia Code §53.1-151 contains tiered timing rules for ordinary parole-eligible terms, with special exclusions and different treatment for life sentences and certain offenses. Most post-1994 felony conduct is generally outside ordinary discretionary parole. Current exceptions must be checked against the person’s offense date, sentence, and legal category rather than assumed from sentence length.

When the Virginia Parole Board reviews an eligible person, its monthly report can show a decision date, certification date, result, reasons, conditions, and Board votes. “Grant” records approval. It is not the physical release date. A detainer, processing need, or required conditions may remain. “Not Grant” addresses that review and does not automatically state that the person will never qualify for another form of release.

Use the Board report for the decision, VADOC’s computation for the active sentence, and the signed conditions or Order of Release for the actual event. After departure, a VADOC district-office result may confirm that confinement ended while parole supervision began. Those dates can all differ without contradiction because each document records a different step.

Note: A parole decision, certification, projected date, and physical departure are separate milestones and should be recorded under their exact labels.

Confirm Russell County Release

The last step separates a computed date from a completed event. VADOC states that a person leaving a state facility signs the applicable Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, or Conditions of Parole, with a staff witness. Those papers identify the actual release terms. A district-office locator result can then support that prison custody ended while state supervision continues.

The official VADOC Facility Release page describes the release documents and state-facility procedure.

The image supports the document trail. Its state-facility procedure should not be copied to SWVRJA, whose release time, exit point, and weekend practice were not published.

For a local release, compare the SWVRJA record with Virginia Jail VINE and the Russell court file. A VINE alert may describe a transfer that looks like release, so read the reporting facility and event text. The Russell County VINELink inmate search explains how to register and verify the notice. When no public system resolves the event, the custodian’s dated release record is the best fallback.
